Harry Maguire blames Man Utd teammate for defensive struggles

Here is some shocking Manchester United news for you.

Well more than news it’s a revelation, but according to reports, Harry Maguire believes David de Gea is partly to blame for his and Manchester United’s defensive troubles in the 2021/22 season.

Manchester United defence suffered during the previous season.

In the Premier League, they gave up 57 goals. Only six teams allowed more goals than them during the season.

Maguire’s performances were critically panned.

During the Premier League season, he appeared 30 times for man utd and made multiple errors.

Despite Maguire’s dismal form, both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick stuck behind their skipper.

Mark Ogden, an ESPN journalist, recently published a story detailing Maguire’s trouble over the last year.

And the 29-year-old apparently believes De Gea hindered his performances.

Maguire is said to have been annoyed by De Gea’s communication and reluctance to defend further away from his goal line.

He believes that these reasons led to his and United’s overall defensive troubles.

According to a source close to the England centre-back, United’s coaches and players have also failed to assist him.

According to the reports, if Maguire and Ruben Dias, one of the Premier League’s top center-backs, switched sides, Maguire would prosper while Dias would suffer.

“Harry needs pace around him, but he hasn’t had that,” a source close to Maguire said.

“If you put [Man City’s] Ruben Dias in the United defence and Harry in the City back-four, Dias would struggle and Harry would thrive.

“Harry hasn’t had a good 12 months, but he hasn’t been helped by those around him — coaches or players — so it’s inevitable that his confidence and form have suffered.”

Maguire’s spot in the team has now been taken by Lisandro Martinez, who was signed in the summer.

He started the first two Premier League games of the season for Manchester United, which lost both games and surrendered six goals.

He was benched following the 4-0 loss to Brentford and has played only 10 minutes in their past four league games.

United’s defence is significantly better now that De Gea is in goal and Martinez and Raphael Varane are in front of him.

Maguire now faces the difficult job of re-establishing himself in Manchester United’s first team.
