Can the Red Devils Finish Fourth?

Ralf Rangnick has criticised Manchester United‘s continued depravity in front of goal after a dead-end game at home against Watford hit their biggest hopes of top four. The former Manchester United midfielder spoke about Ralf Rangnick following Manchester United’s 0-0 win over Watford in another disappointing result for the Red Devils. Rangnick’s club doesn’t appear to have any accurate control over the squad, although it should play a role. Interim manager Rangnick has urged Manchester United to sign RB Leipzig defender Nodi Mukele this summer, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes (Manchester Evening News).

The summer should be a busy time for Manchester United as the club awaits a new permanent manager and with him a series of signings to ensure the new boss has players he would like to work with to take the club to Glory. The pressure is on Ralf Rangnick, and while he has enough players theoretically to reach the top four and possibly even challenge Chelsea for third if Manchester United come together, it seems more and more that there is too much to do and not enough time for the German if United want to finish this season in fourth place or higher. Rangnick told his Manchester United players that he would rather have them settle disputes with him face-to-face than let off steam on social media. According to the Manchester Evening News, Rangnick has significant doubts about his most famous player taking over at Manchester United next season.

Rangnick is expected to be relieved of his managerial duties at the end of the season as his tenure as interim boss ends. In early December, an interim manager was appointed as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s interim successor, and the results have been mixed ever since. Rangnick took over as interim manager of Manchester United in eighth place with five wins in 12 games and a loss of confidence after the disastrous final months of Solskjaer’s’ reign. Jesse Lingard is one of four senior players set to expire at the end of the season, along with Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata. Still, Ralph Rangnick says he doesn’t know if they will leave Manchester United in the summer.

Rangnick is expected to take on a consultant role at Manchester United next season, with United appointing Erik ten Haag or Mauricio Pochettino. Rangnick could do the dirty work of getting rid of underperforming Manchester United players and leaving a clean slate for his permanent successor. Yes, there is still a lot of work to be done, but if Manchester United hope to eventually implement a more octane and heavy style like the big boys, hiring someone like new interim boss Ralph Rangnick is aggressively logical. The fact is that Cristiano Ronaldo is of great value to Rangnick and can fit into the gegenpressing style.

United will visit their local rivals for their Premier League game in the coming Sunday. Manchester City are obviously the favourite to win the tie. Still, you never know as the Manchester Derby has provided some shocking results in the past. The Red Devils have always shown their class in the away game of the Manchester Derby. United will have to do their best against City for their race to the top four.

What do you think will be the score-line of the Manchester Derby?.
