Ten Hag wants to bring Darwin Nunez at Old Trafford

Several transfer sagas will unfold this summer. There are also the futures of Erling Haaland, Mo Salah, and Kylian Mbappe to consider.

Darwin Nunez, on the other hand, deserves equal attention in Portugal.

This season, the striker has captured the hearts and minds of many across the European continent, and as a result, there is a fierce race for his services. Liverpool, Arsenal, and Newcastle all want to lure him away from Benfica.

However, the Red Devils are also interested, and according to AS in Spain, Man United’s new manager is smitten with the forward and has personally requested that he be signed this summer.

The trouble is he may cost somewhere in the region of €130m (£111m) if anyone can stump up the cash.

But he just might be worth the spend!

Nunez has already been seen up close by new manager Erik ten Hag, who saw the Uruguayan score the game-winning goal against Ajax in the Champions League last-16. In this season’s competition, the 22-year-old also scored against Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and Barcelona.

Although Ten Hag used a false nine at one point during his time at Ajax, using Dusan Tadic during the club’s historic run to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018/19, Nunez is much more in the mould of a traditional striker.

The starlet is athletic, has deadly movement, and a strong finishing ability. In terms of style, he is similar to Sebastien Haller, whom Ten Hag brought to Ajax from West Ham United.

On Tuesday, Sport Witness relayed an update from Spanish outlet AS regarding Nunez. According to the report, the 22-year-old could work with super-agent Jorge Mendes, who is set to meet with several English clubs about the Benfica forward.

Following an ‘express request’ from new manager Erik ten Hag, United is thought to be ‘in the lead.’

With Edinson Cavani set to leave Old Trafford in the coming months, Cristiano Ronaldo appears to be the only senior centre-forward available to Ten Hag when he arrives.

As a result, bringing in an exciting young attacker who has been prolific this season in a variety of positions appears to be a wise move moving forward.

Benfica want €130 million for Nunez, which would make him the most expensive United signing of all time, ahead of Paul Pogba, but it could be the perfect fit for Ten Hag in what the Red Devils hope will be a new era for the club.
