TRAVELLING SQUAD SPOTTED
Anthony Martial was among the players who made the trip south to London for the FA Cup Final yesterday. The Frenchman who missed out on the last Premier League game of the season through injury is believed to back in the mix for selection bar another late injury. United also welcomed back Belgian Romelu Lukaku into the travelling squad. The rest of the names like Bailly, Pogba, Matic and Sanchez were all present.
THE SQUAD:
De Gea, Pereira, Romero; Darmian, Valencia, Bailly, Lindelof, Joes, Smalling, Rojo, Blind, Shaw, Young; Herrera, McTominay, Fellaini, Matic, Pogba, Lingard, Mata; Rashford, Sanchez, Lukaku, Martial.
Meanwhile, Phil Jones is the favourite to start alongside Smalling in the Final per ESPN.
UNITED CUP STARS
Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof was called up to the Swedish National Team for next month’s World Cup.
United had four players called up to the English team travelling to Russia for the World Cup. Gareth Southgate called upon the services of the likes of Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard. Chris Smalling was a major omission which is a surprise considering the good form that Smalling was in, in the lead up to the announcement of the squad.
The call up of the four English players maintains a long standing tradition of the club of having at least one representative in the English squad in all the world cups the Three Lions have competed in starting from Brazil 1950.
SANDRO ANNOUNCEMENT CLOSE?
As revealed earlier, negotiations between United and Juventus with regards to the transfer of Alex Sandro took place this week and the results were positive from a United perspective. The deal is said to be closer than ever before with a fee of €50m being touted. Reports in Italy stressed that an announcement with regards to the transfer in the coming days should be no surprise given the stage at which the talks are at this point of time.
It was also revealed that Matteo Darmian will be heading to Juventus this summer but that deal is independent of the transfer of Alex Sandro.
CITY PULL OUT
The odds of Fred joining United were slashed even further as the closest rivals to United in the race for the Brazilian’s signature Manchester City pulled out of the race. City will now shift their focus to completing the signing of Napoli’s Jorginho leaving United a clear path in their quest to make Fred a United player before the close of the summer window.
