According to  The Sun, Manchester United have targeted Barcelona right-back Nelson Semedo. The full-back has struggled for game-time with teammate Sergi Roberto being preferred by coach Ernesto Valverde this season.

With chances looking increasingly restricted, the Catalonia side are now ready to profit on the defender, who’s available for 42million, the report maintains.

The report additionally adds that the player’s representative, Jorge Mendes, wants the 26-year-old to join Manchester United and will use his exceptional relationship with the team to secure a transfer.

Meanwhile, the report asserts that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United have opened discussions with the La Liga giants concerning the Portuguese’s situation. Semedo has so far started only 11 of Barcelona’s 18 league matches this season and has 3 assists for his name.

For somebody who was seen and brought in as a replacement for Dani Alves, the recent situation of Semedo gives a different picture.

Semedo has failed to nail down the place for himself because of the presence of academy grad Sergi Roberto since arriving into Camp Nou in the summer of 2017.

The Portuguese, who’s enjoying his third season has around all competitions for them played a total of 82 games but has been applied based upon the team’s requirements.

This has forced the participant to search for better opportunities and United, who were his long-time admirers, have registered their interest in the versatile full-back.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer’s United recently procured Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace last summer for a substitute for former right-back Antonio Valencia.

The Englishman has become a critical and regular member of Solskjaer’s side this year and has amazed in Old Trafford since landing.

With the other two being Diogo Dalot and Timothy Fosu-Mensah, including Wan-Bissaka, United have 3 right-backs. Both are hurt and are now out of action.

The Red Devils’ curiosity about Semedo may not only be on account of their respect for its wing-back that is highly-rated but as a result of absence of quality left-backs in their ranks.

Injuries have has struggled this season and persistently troubled their Luke Shaw, forcing Solskjaer to rely upon childhood player Brandon Williams and defender Ashley Young.

Though Williams has established his potential with some promising displays, he’s still too young and it’d be absurd if United dash him onto the scene, while Young is already 34 and far past his prime.

Together with the left-back conundrum remaining that a problem for them, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the Semedo, who is comfortable playing on the flank has drawn the Red Devils.

He has two assists, which lays claim to his ability to play on either side of the pitch and has featured seven times.

It is no doubt that Semedo is a wing-back that is talented and Manchester United, awarded their problems at the wing-back position, could make decent use of him when the deal happens.

Semedo provides Solskjaer plenty of alternatives to choose from due to his versatility and may also give rivalry. Hence, the Portuguese full-back could be a wonderful addition to the Red Devils.
