It is finally the end of yet another football season, and with club football now almost three months away from resuming, now is the perfect time to cast our minds back on the year gone by and select the best and worst of the 2017/18 Manchester United campaign. All of the United writers have provided their selections for the categories, and a simple majority will decide the winner of each individual award.
Signing of the Season – Romelu Lukaku
Matic is a shout but given the type of player Lukaku can be for the best part of the decade, I’d have to go with him. It’s too close to call but I’ll have to go with Rom.
Most Improved Player of the Season – Jesse Lingard
From bench player to starting eveyweek and scoring Messi-esque goals. He can do everything! Suffered a dip in form towards the end of the season but still one of the biggest positives from this season.
Player Who Should Leave the Club – Antonio Valencia.
Controversial? Yes. But he’s increasingly becoming a liability at the back and can’t put in a decent ball into the box. Hasn’t been the same since that injury around Christmas.
Goal of the Season – Lingard V Derby County
Match of the Season – City away
No doubt about this one. Classic comeback, passion from the players for once and winning away to your City rivals in that fashion. Perfect game.
Worst Match of the Season – Huddersfield away
This is the game where we lost the title. It was an all-round disaster with Lindelof leading the way.
Rating for this Season – 7.5
Not as bad a season as many say it to be but not a great one either. Can definitely improve and Mourinho has no excuses at the end of next season.
Hopes for the Summer –
A clearance sale that sees deadwood leave. New fullbacks who can put in a good ball into the box and another central midfielder to finish a trio involving him, Matic and Pogba.
