The Portuguese star’s ability from dead-ball scenarios is one of the best, the Manchester United manager has seen.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised Bruno Fernandes’ performance against Chelsea and stated the Manchester United midfielder’s set-pieces were”top class”.
Fernandes’ superb corner was headed in by Harry Maguire in the second half of United’s 2-0 Premier League win over Chelsea on Monday.
Solskjaer was thrilled with the midfielder, who came at United for a documented #47million ($61 million) in January.
Monday’s game was Fernandes’ second appearance in a Manchester United shirt after a start at the Red Devil’s scoreless draw Wolves prior to the Premier League break.
And Solskjaer has seen plenty of great things from the big-money January signing as he hailed his set-piece ability.
“He is a top player, he needs to get on the ball,” the United manager told a news conference.
“However, at set-ball delivery he is top course, one of the better ones I have seen. And Harry, we know if he could find a run on the ball he is dangerous and he got the goal.”
The triumph, set up by Anthony Martial’s first-half header, moved Manchester United into seventh and within three points of fourth-placed Chelsea.
But with Manchester City’s Champions League ban coming from UEFA last week, finishing in fifth position might be key in the Premier League this year.
Manchester United are within two points of fifth-place Tottenham with Sheffield United sandwiched between the two clubs.
But Solskjaer still needs to see more from his team, who see Club Brugge at the first leg of the Europa League last-32 tie on Thursday.
“Of course we would like to be in the Champions League next year, and we have given ourselves a chance at this outcome, but we understand that we will need to improve,” he said.
“On creating opportunities, scoring goals. We showed that a clean sheet again now, a foundation to build from.
“We are going to work hard, recover now because we have a game on Thursday. So, thanks for the help, all of the retrieval we get in Europe.”
After confronting Club Brugge, Manchester United will take on Watford before hosting Club Brugge within their second-leg tie.
Following that comes a game against Everton before Wayne Rooney and Derby County play host to Solskjaer’s side in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
