The Portugal midfielder has made a superb start to life at Old Trafford and his compatriot believes he can build a legacy for the Red Devils.
Diogo Dalot has backed team-mate, Bruno Fernandes, to become a Manchester United legend after the remarkable start to his Old Trafford career.
Fernandes came from Sporting C.P. from the January transfer window and has already picked up private awards for his consistent performances having been crowned the club’s Player of the Month for February while also picking up the Premier League Player of the Month prize having made an immediate impact for the Red Devils.
In his nine starts, Fernandes has already provided three goals and four assists having become a regular starter for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
And Dalot considers his compatriot can create a lasting legacy among United fans if he can continue his electrical form.
“He is a top man, a leading player. He’s going to be a legend,” Dalot told the Official Manchester United Podcast.
“He is unbelievable, he could be better of course also. He is going to learn a lot from this club.
“I think he’s an enormous player to have in this group and he is going to be an excellent player for this club. He is going to be (a legend), no doubt about that.
“He was the captain at Sporting, of course, he is an experienced player also, 25 years old, he is played Italy, he played Portugal also. He knows what he’s doing. It is going to be very great for him.”
Fernandes’ coming has raised a United team which was threatening to underwhelm this year, with Solskjaer’s side having bounced back from a home defeat against Burnley in January to string together an 11-game unbeaten streak in all competitions.
However, despite his sway, Fernandes didn’t need to take all the plaudits himself.
“We can discuss a new beginning after Bruno but it isn’t about Bruno, it’s about the team. 1 player does not change a team. The team changes when everybody pushes together for the exact same side,” Fernandes told Sky Sports.
“However, the support I get from the fans because the first day is remarkable. I listened to the song they do for me and I was like,’I’ve been here for 2 days and I have a tune!’ The love that they give me this first month is truly good.”
